WILLIAM JAMES "BILL" MURRAY

Après des études de médecine, Bill Murray commence sa carrière de
comédien en rejoignant la troupe théatrale Second City. Il effectue
plusieurs tournées puis déménage à New York en 1976 où il tient ses
premiers rôles professionnels dans les pièces National Lampoon Radio
Hour et National Lampoon Show.
Bill Murray débute sa carrière sur grand écran aux côtés d'Ivan Reitman
qui lui donne successivement la vedette d'Arrête de ramer, t'es sur le
sable (1979), de la comédie anti-militariste Les Bleus (1984), et
surtout du film fantastique S.O.S. Fantomes (1984) qui le révèle au
niveau international. Malgré une prestation remarquée dans Tootsie, il
connaît un relatif passage à vide au milieu des années 80, et
s'installe à Paris, où il suivre des cours à la Sorbonne. De retour au
Etats-Unis, il fonde sa propre troupe de théatre d'improvisation et
joue les plus grands auteurs sur les scènes de New York. Renouant avec
le cinéma avec La Petite Boutique des horreurs et S.O.S Fantomes II, il
s'essaie en 1990 à la mise en scène et à la production avec Quick
Change.
Dans les années 90, Bill Murray s'illustre à merveille dans des
personnages bougons et aigris, tour à tour en haut de l'affiche (Un
jour sans fin, Mad Dog and Glory) ou second rôle de luxe (Ed Wood,
Sexcrimes, Charlie et ses droles de dames). Adepte d'un humour absurde
qui se teinte parfois de mélancolie, l'irrésistible quinquagénaire est
bientôt courtisé par les talents les plus prometteurs du cinéma
indépendant, de l'extravagant Wes Anderson (Rushmore, La Vie aquatique
en 2004) à Sofia Coppola qui lui offre dans Lost in translation le rôle
d'un comédien aussi ringard qu'attachant (2003). Deux ans plus tard, sa
composition de Don Juan vieillissant dans Broken flowers réalisé par le
pape du cinéma arty, Jim Jarmusch, asseoit encore un peu plus son
statut d'acteur-culte.
Vie personnelle et anecdotes:->Il a 6 enfants, 2 enfants de Margaret Mickey' Kelley' (mariés en
1980 - divorcés en 1994), et 4 de Jennifer Butler (designer de
costumes) qu'il a épousée en 1997 et vec qui il vit toujours.
-> Il a été mordu 2 fois par la marmotte sur le tournage du film "un jour sans fin".
-> Sofia a écrit le role de Bob Harris dans Lost in Translation spécialement pour Bill Murray.
-> Il travaille souvent avec les réalisateurs Harold Ramis, Ivan Reitman, Wes Anderson, et Jim Jarmusch.
-> A été éventualisé pour interpreter Bruce Wayne/Batman dans le film de Tim Burton "Batman" (1989)

it's like being famous. People say hi, how are you doing, and after the
thousandth time, you just get angry; you really pop."
"There's definitely a lot of trash that comes with the prize of being
famous. It's a nice gift, but there's a lot of wrapping and paper and
junk to cut through. Back then, when a movie came out and people saw
you on the street, their reaction was so supercharged that it was
scary. It would frighten other people. It used to really rattle me. I
mean, everybody would love to have their clothes torn off by a mob of
girls, but being screamed at is different."
It was cool that an Oscar nomination never happened for a long time,
and then it was cool that it did happen. But I don't want to always be
feeling this thing in my chest like, 'Am I good enough? Am I gonna be
rejected?'
Why would you get up there and bore people? I never have figured that
out. These people are supposedly in the entertainment industry, and
they finally get up there to that podium and they become the most

unties a knot, but it's not something where people want to give you a
prize. They just want to say, 'Thanks for making me laugh,' which I

can be stuck in a hotel, several thousand miles away in a whole
different time zone, and it is never glamorous. You can't sleep, you
put on the television in the middle of the night when you can't
understand a word, and you make phone calls back home which don't

"I know what it's like to be that stranger's voice calling in," he
admits. "It happens in acting and it happens in business. Those who are
living together all the time and can guarantee seeing each other every
night or weekend probably don't know what I am talking about. There is
also that little-discussed subject - loneliness. That is a great taboo,
isn't it? No one really wants to admit they are lonely, and it is never
really addressed very much between friends and family. But I have felt
lonely many times in my life."
